Lavar Ball Says Lonzo Won’t Re-sign to Lakers Unless They Sign His Brothers

By Bri Taylor

For a couple of years, Lavar Ball said that all three of his sons will play for the Lakers together. Lonzo Ball, officially signed a four-year rookie contract with the Lakers in July 2017. However, Lavar Ball says Lonzo will not return to the team if the Lakers do not sign his younger brothers, LiAngelo and LaMelo.

A few months ago, Lavar pulled LiAngelo out of UCLA and LaMelo from high school to play professional basketball overseas. Both brothers, LiAngelo, 19, and LaMelo 16 years old have been playing for a professional team in Lithuania this year.

On Monday, Lavar announced that if the Lakers do not sign Lonzo’s two brother beginning this year with LiAngelo, then Lonzo will leave the team in two years. However, Lonzo has not made an official statement concerning the matter.

According to Donatas Urbonas, a Lithuania reporter, Lavar says Lonzo will to go to any NBA team willing to take all three of the brothers.

“I want all my three boys to play for the Lakers. But if that does not happen. I’m telling you the story what’s gonna happen first. If they don’t take Gelo this year, I bring back Gelo here (Prienai) to play with Melo for two years. Lonzo will be on his third year and I want let every NBA team know that Lonzo is not going to re-sign with the Lakers but will go to any team that will take all of my three boys. That’s my plan.”

Lonzo is under contact until the 2020-21 season. The Lakers have yet to make a statement on recruiting the two Ball brothers.
